TEACHERS: Betty Ann Cormier is originally from Cheticamp, NS, world capital of the hooked rug. Learning from her maman,
Betty Ann is the fourth generation who took up the craft of rug hooking 56 years ago. She designs, hooks and dyes
her own wool. She has been teaching rug hooking for 10 years in NB and NS.
Sylvia Roach was only 10 years old when she began learning from her maman and aunts. Three weeks into it, she
was asked to join neighbours in hooking the backgrounds and has never looked back. Sylvia designs, hooks and
dyes her wool. She is well known for her beautiful work, shading and has been supplying local gift shops for years.
She also has hooked on special floor rugs, one of which is in the Governor General’s residence in Ottawa.
WORKSHOP: This is a 1 day class, register for either for Saturday or Sunday.
Betty and Sylvia will be teaching the traditional Cheticamp style of rug hooking. You will learn to hook a 6”x 6”
trivet using an original Cheticamp rug hooking frame and hook. Betty will be providing authentic rug hooking
