Our International Rug Hooking Artist of the Year is Susan Morin from Georgia.
Susan Morin is an accomplished fibre artisan, having produced more than 150 unique pieces since 1982. Susan studied under nationally recognized faculty and artists at the University of Pennsylvania where she earned her degree in History of Art. After completing her studies, Susan had the opportunity to study the art of rug hooking from Bea Christoff, a recognized expert and accomplished artist in the field. In 1990, under the tutelage of Bea, Susan was awarded best rug in show at the McGowan Biennial in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Since then Susan has exhibited her work throughout the U.S. and Canada and continues to teach privately to small groups and attend many rug camps and exhibitions.
Drawing inspiration from vintage rugs from the early 1900's, Susan maintains a folk art influence throughout her collection. Being a colorist, she enjoys playing with all kinds of colors and introducing them into her rugs. Her tastes range from primitive houses, scenes of animals, and maritime scenes. She enjoys revitalizing old antique images from times past with the use of varied color and texture.
Our Canadian Rug Hooking Artist of the Year is Deanne Fitzpatrick from Amherst, Nova Scotia.
