Our 2021 Rug Hooking Artist of the Year is:

 

Doug Rankin of Highland Heart Hookery, Halifax, Nova Scotia

Doug Rankin has been "hooking" since 1994 and is a Certified Rug Hooking Teacher as per:

  • The Rug Hooking Guild of Nova Scotia's Teacher's Branch since 1998
  • McGown Teacher since 2002

Doug has been teaching rug hooking classes weekly at his home since 1997. He teaches narrow and wide cut shading of flowers, various landscapes including: Maud Lewis patterns, mandalas, seascapes, Orientals and leaves.

He has taught workshops in many locations throughout Canada and the United States as well as at major rug hooking events e.g. Sauder Village, Cape May and the Ontario Guild of Hooked Rugs' Annual Meeting and the Hooked Rug Museum of North America, here in Nova Scotia.

Doug has exhibited his creative rug hooking projects in the United States. 

Doug says, "My students represent the best I can do and they make me look good as their teacher!"

The Hooked Rug Museum is pleased to recognize Doug Rankin as our "Artist of the Year" and displaying his many creative hooked projects as well as those created by some of his students.
